The Role

We are looking for an experienced Stressing Engineer to join our team working across London Underground sites.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring track safety and stability by planning and carrying out rail stressing activities on continuously welded rail (CWR), supporting both maintenance and renewal projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Carrying out and supervising rail stressing activities
  • Ensuring correct stressing temperatures are achieved and recorded
  • Planning works and coordinating site access
  • Working closely with engineers and site teams to deliver projects safely
  • Inspecting and verifying works to ensure compliance with standards
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation
  • Identifying and mitigating risks on site
  • Supporting emergency response to track defects
  • Measure rail temperature and calculate stress-free temperature (SFT)
  • Use stressing equipment (hydraulic tensors, thermometers)
  • Interpret track drawings
  • Apply Transport for London standards
  • Assist in track renewals and maintenance

 

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience in rail engineering or track maintenance
  • Good understanding of continuously welded rail (CWR) principles
  • Knowledge of rail safety standards
  • Strong safety awareness
  • Ability to work shifts, including weekends

Desirable:

  • PTS certification
  • LU BTA (Basic Track Awareness)
  • HNC/HND or degree in Civil Engineering
  • Experience working on Network Rail or London Underground systems

Health & Safety:

·        Adhere to rail safety standard

·        Use PPE

·        Awareness of hazards (live rails, trains, high voltage)

Shift Pattern

  • Full-time, Sunday to Thursday (engineering hours), Outdoor conditions
  • Typically, 8-hour shifts (may extend to 10–12 hours depending on client requirements)
  • Night and weekend work
