GPX is ISO 3834-2 certified and accredited by The Welding Institute's (TWI) Welding Fabricator Certification Scheme (WFCS) and Rail Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme (RISQS) to undertake aluminothermic welding (Thermit and Pandrol), arc welding and rail grinding. Our services are also accredited by the European Federation for Welding, Joining and Cutting (EWF) and the International Institute of Welding (IIW).
Network Rail and TWI approved welding training for both our own technical staff and external organisations is delivered by our in-house training provider, Infrastructure Training Services (ITS).
WeGPX operates nationally with depots in northwest London, Rotherham and Newport and satellite facilities in Ashford and Fareham. Our northwest London and Rotherham depots also house ITS's welding training centres.
WGPX is the largest supplier of track welders in the UK and, typically, deploys 75 to 80 teams of welders across the rail network each day.
All our aluminothermic welders are qualified in both the Goldschmidt Thermit (TW1-TW5) and Pandrol (RT1-RT5) processes.
We supply qualified weld inspectors and maintain a full database of weld data and productivity.
Our experienced welders (MMA1-MMA7 and FCAW 1-4) carry out every aspect of arc welding on the railway network and repair all types of plain line and switches and crossings’ (S&C) rail defects.
To maximise the life of track, S&C and other rail assets while also reducing the associated risks, our rail grinding teams are highly experienced in removing rolling contact fatigue defects, lipping and corrugation and, using specialist equipment, in restoring worn rail to the optimal profile.
All our grinding teams are qualfied to industry competency standards, including Grinding Supervisory Manager and Grinding Operatve (TR80), and play a key role in meeting the requirements of our clients’ rail maintenance programmes across the UK
Leading the field in performance and innovation within the rail welding sector, GPX offers a wealth of experience and technical knowledge gained from working within the rail industry for the past 20 years. Members of the GPX team hold senior roles with industry bodies, such as the Institute of Rail Welding (IoRW), and sit on national and internationl standards’ committees, including BSI, CEN and ISO, with responsibility for developing and writing the technical standards.
Recent forward thinking has resulted in the purchase of fully supported modular rail grinding machines, the use of the Pandrol PLA Advanced process using self-sealing moulds, and the introduction of Transport for London’s phased array ultrasonic testing inspection system for checking the integrity of the welds. We also routinely use battery-operated welding and grinding plant and equipment, and our hand-held tablets make on-site reporting and recording of data quicker and more efficient.
